Your dog's age

Relative age chart: Human years as compared to Dog years

The traditional belief that the age of a dog equals seven human years is a myth as the actual age of a dog in human years depends on the size of the dog.

Medium and large breed are generally considered to have moved into the senior phase of their life at around seven years old, giant breeds at around five years of age and small breeds reach the senior lifestage at around ten years of age.

Your cat's age

Relative age chart: Human years as compared to Cat years

There is no scientific method for converting your cat's age into the equivalent in 'human years'. Once again, we used the method of one human calender year was the equivalent to seven cat years. As a one year-old cat is more physically and behaviourally mature than a seven year-old child, this theory has now been replaced by the following theory:

The first two years of a cat's life are roughly equal to the first 25 years of a human life. Each year after that is roughly equal to four years.
