Paul is a graduate of The University of Waterloo with a BA in Political Science, and The University of Windsor with a Bachelor of Commerce, majoring in Finance and Accounting. Paul started work at the Barrie Veterinary Hospital in 1993. Since that time, he has been active in the veterinary management field having joined the Veterinary Hospital Managers Association (VHMA) in 1993. In 1996, he was elected to the VHMA Board of Directors as the Canadian Representative, and in 1998, he was elected to the Board as President-Elect. Paul received his Certified Veterinary Practice Manager (CVPM) certification in 2000. From 1999 through 2001, he served as the associations President. He currently sits on the CVPM Board of Directors as the Co-Chairman.
Paul resides in Barrie with his girlfriend, Tammy, and their dog, Heidi, cat, Hobbs, and Budgie, Sky.
