Services

Our facilities, equipment and practice policies are inspected and approved by the College of Veterinarians of Ontario every five years. The Barrie Veterinary Hospital participates in the Ontario Veterinary Medical Associations client satisfaction survey on a regular basis to gauge client perceptions of our hospital.

Doppler Blood Pressure Monitoring

Special pulse amplification equipment is needed to take blood pressures in small animals. Blood pressure monitoring can play a role in diagnosing and treating hypertension and monitoring anesthesia.

Electrocardiograms

ECG’s are tracings of the electrical activity of the heart used to detect certain types of heart disease. We can do in house ECG’s or can have ECG’s transmitted over the phone lines for interpretation by veterinary cardiologists.

Laboratory

Our laboratory includes blood analysis equipment that can generate a complete blood count and a full biochemical profile in less than ten minutes. This prevents any unnecessary delays in assessing your pets condition and initiating appropriate treatment. We are also equipped to do on site urinalysis, cytology, cultures, and fecal exams.

Radiology

X-rays can be taken, developed and interpreted in our hospital for prompt diagnosis of many internal problems. Our automatic x-ray processor allows for rapidly and consistently developed radiographs.

Surgery

We have a fully equipped operating room allowing us to perform most minor and major surgical procedures from spays and neuters to more complicated emergency, orthopedic, and soft tissue surgeries. Blood pressure, respiratory, and heart monitors are available to ensure the safety of your pet while under anesthesia.

Ultrasonography

With ultrasonography we can examine the abdominal organs of a patient in a way we could previously only do through exploratory surgery. Ultrasound imaging is useful for diagnosing diseases of internal organs, identifying tumours and diagnosing and assessing pregnancy. If needed we can obtain ultrasound guided needle biopsies of organs or masses with minimal discomfort and without the need for general anesthesia.
