Can you pick out the Pit Bull. Only one of the pictures on the following page features the real American PitBull Terrier. Take the test to see if you can find it. To find the breed of a dog, click on its picture. Note that there are no mixes or rescue dogs of unknown background who's breed could be debated in the page. All dogs have been picked in breeder's web sites and should be good representatives of their breed. Take the Test by clicking here.

When you are done, ask your family and friends to take to test and watch the results. For many people, a Pit Bull is a a big headed dog, or a dog with cropped ears. For some it's a brindle dog, or one with a patch on eye, or its a big stocky dog. Breed misidentification is a scary thing in a time breed specific legislation is growing.... Pit Bull dogs are often blamed for dog attacks that may very well have been caused by an another breed...

City of Barrie - Our Experience

Since the legislation of Bill 132, a.k.a. the "Pit Bull Ban" we, as well as our clients, have endured much frustration and confusion with regards to the Bylaw Enforcement department and their new stipulations for residents who wish to obtain a city dog license. At the Barrie Veterinary Hospital our computer system lists pure breeds by their specific breed and mixed breeds as mix, (i.e. Rottweiler mix, Poodle Mix, etc..). There is no way of determining exact parentage of any mixed breed. If the Barrie bylaw office deems this insufficient information they can, at their discretion, send an officer to the residence to determine whether or not that dog has what the legislature considers to be "Pit Bull characteristics". Of course we must recognize that the City of Barrie is only following guidelines implemented by none other than our Ontario Attorney General, Michael Bryant. We encourage you to forward all of your comments, concerns, and opinions to him at:
